Don’t Waste Drinking Water: HMWSSB Warns Hyderabad Residents of Strict Action
Water Board Imposes ₹10,000 Fine on Banjara Hills Furniture Shop for Misusing Drinking Water
The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board has issued a strong warning to Hyderabad residents and commercial establishments against the misuse and wastage of drinking water. The warning comes after officials imposed a ₹10,000 fine on a furniture showroom in Banjara Hills for using potable water to wash its premises.
During an inspection at Road No. 12, HMWSSB Managing Director Ashok Reddy noticed drinking water being wasted for non-potable purposes and immediately ordered action against the establishment.
Officials warned that drinking water supplied by HMWSSB is meant strictly for domestic consumption and essential use, not for washing shops, vehicles, or commercial spaces. The department stated that surprise inspections and monitoring drives will now be intensified across the city.
HMWSSB appealed to Hyderabad citizens to use water responsibly, especially during rising summer demand, warning that anyone found wasting drinking water will face heavy penalties and strict legal action.
